Labor Radio is a project
of: WORT 89.9 FM Madison Community Radio, the University of Wisconsin School
for Workers, The South Central Federation of Labor, Madison Teachers Incorporated
and The Capital Area Uni-Serve South. The Labor Radio Program is currently available as an archive of both audio ad text files, plus a live
simulcast on the internet via WSUM Madison Student Radio, and can be listened
to anywhere in the world, during the school year at http://wsum.wisc.edu.
For three years, the Labor Radio Program has brought labor news to residents of Dane County and the greater South Central region of Wisconsin. Now with the addition of the WSUM Madison Student Radio internet simulcast of the Labor Radio Program, the Labor Radio Program brings local, state, and national U.S. labor news to the world. The Labor Radio Program has interviewed several hundred union leaders and members and has provided a forum for workers to tell their side of the story.
What Do We Do?
The Labor Radio Program provides the commercial media with a weekly synopsis of labor news. Radio, TV stations, and print sources have often used Labor Radio news items as features in their broadcasts and publications. The University of Wisconsin School for Workers and WORT 89.9 FM Madison Community Radio have trained several people in media skills, thus, strengthening their local union, increasing the breadth and depth of media coverage on labor issues, and providing for the information needs of the community.
